Tupac HologramTupac Shakur was resurrected and raised from the dead (at least digitally) last weekend at this year’s Coachella music festival in California, a performance that perhaps marks the new trend in live concert entertainment. High Tech “magic” brewed by the visual effects gurus at Digital Domain Media Group made this show both awesome and creepily entertaining. DDMG is responsible for innovative visuals in more than 80 major motion pictures and hundreds of commercials: Thor, Tron, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Star Trek.
Tupac’s full 3D hologram rocked the crowd along with rapper Snoop Dogg performing the hits “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” The computer animated image of Tupac was so meticulous that it featured gold chains and full tattoos, and it pieced together detailed physical characteristics and movements from the performances recorded before the rapper’s death in 1996.
We at The BEAT want to give kudos to Dr. Dre for coming up with the idea (and paying for it), making it a reality –or better said, a VIRTUAL reality- that has gone viral all over the internet. Did you watch the video? Tell me what do you think of DDMG’s hologram of Tupac Shakur in the comment box below.
